Filing Cabinet Make-over

Look at this hideous filing cabinet!!  The only reason the much needed make-over for this has waited this long was because this was in my garage where no one including me could see it's shame.  Now that we're moving it will take up residency in our master bedroom- so this look will not do!  Here's the story on this cabinet-
My mom had it for years and years (like literally 20 years or something), it was part of a matching yellow set that had wide cabinets that held sewing patterns.  When my parents sold part of their ranch that included the massive garage that contained my mom's hobby room and the home of these yellow cabinets this was one if the only things I wanted.  My brother however had been filling my car (we carpooled from out of town) with treasures and soon there was no room for the filing cabinet.  So I told my mom I'd have my husband pick this up the next week when he came into town.

In the confusion of everything apparently she forgot that I wanted this and gave it to her cleaning lady.  The next week when my husband went to pick it up and it was gone my mom felt awful and contacted the cleaning lady and had her bring it back.  But in the few days it was gone apparently they gave it their own little make-over by starting to paint the drawers green.

So this is how it's been since I've had it.  Once it was completely yellow and although not my favorite color it was cute.
Since our bedroom colors are purple and black I wanted to paint this to match it- so I took a break from packing and had a creative outlet moment!  I used gloss spray paint.
Here's the end result:

What you can't really see in this picture is the weird texturing on some of the drawers.  What happened is I was spray painting it while on the phone- and even though I was making an effort to keep a distance so the paint would go on light, it still had some streak/drip marks.  My friend on the phone said she uses a paint brush to smooth it out when that happens.  Since mine were packed I tried using a paper towel- BIG MISTAKE.  The paper towels stuck to some of the paint (duh right?) and then it gave a weird texture.  So my next attempt to fix that was to let it dry and then try sandpapering the bumps/texture off then repainting those areas........... well lets just say each thing I tried to fix ended up making it worse!  So I finally settled with a few odd textured spots that will have to be there until they bother me so much that I find a way to fix them.

Overall though, I'm really happy with the color and look that it turned out having! It should look great in our bedroom!
