I was sent a packet of Irish Pub Cheddar Potato Soup from Valley Food Storage to review. Since my hubby is not a soup fan we made it on a night he was working. I was a little nervous at first if my kids would like and even eat it- since we rarely eat anything processed. But reading on the label that there is no MSG used was a good sign, and helped relieve my concerns.
To make the soup you boil 5 cups of water, once it's boiling add the soup mixture and whisk for a couple minutes. Then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 15 minutes.
On pouch said it makes 5 servings. With myself and 4 of my kids willing to try it there was plenty. A couple of my kids even had seconds.
Personally I was surprised that it was better than I had expected. Would I buy it? mmmmm maybe... My kids really liked it, but for me it was just okay. So maybe it's something like mac & cheese- kids love it but it's just okay for us parents.
In full disclosure it may be the fact that it had peppers in it that I didn't care for it as much. I'm not a big fan of peppers, so maybe that makes me a little bias.
I do love the idea of freeze dried meal mixes like this however! And no MSG is hard to find since most companies want to add it to increase the flavor. Looking at the brochure Valley Food Storage sent to me they have quite a selection of other meals including Lasagna, Alfredo, Teriyaki Chicken, and Stroganoff that I think my family would probably enjoy since those are along the lines of things we normally eat.
These types of meals are great to have in your food storage, as well as for camping, and I thought they'd also be a great idea to take on trips for a easy meal that can be made in a hotel room using the coffee maker to heat the water.
The cost of these packets are $11.95, however there are also options to purchase kits for emergencies such as 72 hour kits, 1 month on up to 1 year supply.
