May 2nd-8th is Pediatric Stroke Awareness Week. Did you know infants can have strokes? I suppose it's something I've always thought possible, but only ever happens in the extreme medical shows like House right? But it's estimated to happen 1 out of every 1,000 babies born. Seeing how the UNICEF estimates that an average of 353,000 babies are born each day around the world it's more common than I thought.
I was introduced to Pediatric Stroke Awareness by one of my readers- Jessica who started Brendon's Smile, Raising Awareness for Childhood Stroke.
Brendon's Smile was officially founded in 2009 as a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization to raise awareness of pediatric stroke. Our mission is to increase awareness and knowledge among both the general public and medical professionals about strokes and cerebrovascular disease in the unborn, newborns, and children up to 18 years of age.
