What is a Apple Peeler and how to use it

If you do a lot of cooking with apples, have an orchard, buy a lot of apples, enjoy cooking or canning apples you NEED a Apple peeler!!  This peeler-corer-slicer will save you so much time you will wonder how you survived without it.  Plus for about $20 you can get one on Amazon, so that's not going to break the bank.  Today's post will show you how to use it-
What is it?
Basically the name explains it- it's a apple peeler, corer and slicer.  So it does just that- it peels, cores and slices apples.

Why do you need it?
It will save you TONS of time! In a matter of seconds it will have your apple read to be dehydrated in slices, canned, or read to eat without the core or peel.

This little gadget is invaluable when canning apples.  If you're making apple pie filling this does most of the work for you! All you do is take the apple off it and cut it in half or thirds and you've got perfect uniform apple slices.

Same with dehydrating apples.

There are 2 different kinds of Apple peelers.  One has a clamp base like the one I got shown above, and the other has a suction cup base.  I prefer the clamp base.  Clamp base ones will stay attached to your table, counter or cutting board easier.  Suction cup ones may be convenient because you don't have to have them right on the edge, but the suction can come undone easily and be frustrating to work with.

Ok but enough talk- let me show it to you in action!

Clamp it to your counter, table, or since both of mine were too thick I attached it to a cutting board.
Insert your apple into the 3 prongs, then start rotating the handle.

As the apple gets to the peeler it will peel and move adjusting automatically to the size of your apple.  I have found that the really big apples don't work as well, but they will still work.

See the peeling?  My kids loved eating the peeling strips.  As the apple gets just pass the peeler part it will go through a slicer that will spiral cut it.

So here the whole apple has gone through the full gadget- all I need to do now is pull the sliced apple off of the core.

Once you pull off the apple it will be cut into a spiral- like a curly fry.  My kids had fun eating it like this. but if you want slices to dry or can just cut it in half or thirds and you'll have perfect slices that are all the same thickness!

Here's the Amazon link to the one above that I bought. I'm really happy with it!
(plus if you buy it from this link I get a little kick back- Thanks!)
