Are you an emotional eater? I know I am! Years ago when I was first becoming a RET and going through a divorce at the end of a pregnancy I found some secrets that helped me.Once I realized my eating habits were usually related to an emotion that I was trying to sooth it was like I had a guide to my habits! Each time I thought I was hungry I would ask myself- "am I REALLY hungry? or am I trying to avoid an emotion?" Sometimes it was easier to just focus on what emotion I was feeling at the time. More often than not there was an emotion there that needed to be released, especially at night time after my kids were in bed and I felt snacky. Patterns started appearing as to what emotions I was usually feeling and trying to replace with food.
My personal emotions replaced with food were usually loneliness, or feeling inadequate and not good enough. So what I did was when feeling these instead of turning to food I would tap out the emotions using a RET technique. Almost every time after I tapped out the issue I wasn't hungry any more! My body had simply learned over the years to combine the feeling of hunger each time these emotions came up, so if the emotion was gone, so was the hunger.
Tapping is a very easy technique that is taught during RET sessions. It is a great way to release unwanted emotions that are negatively affecting your life. The Rapid Eye Technology website has some videos you can watch and learn a little bit before seeing a RET. This link shows an easy way to start to manage stress and traumatic emotions.
