Secret Service Squad

Lately we have noticed our kids fighting more.  As parents we wanted to work on the overall love and kindness attitude in our home so we had been thinking about a few different ideas and how to best teach our children, or rather train them to have better attitudes and treat others better.  It had occurred to me a couple weeks ago that one of the main things our family was lacking in is service.
When you serve others you learn to think of others and the world does less revolving around you.  You gain compassion and love for others as you serve them.  And it does make you feel good to do something nice for someone else.  After all, I believe that service and unconditional love are the most important traits a person can have on this earth.  They can be hard to have at times but working towards them is great.

So I talked with my hubby and kids about serving others.  At first it was just suggested to do in our own family.  To find little ways to serve each other.  I was hoping this would cut down on fighting and self-absorbed attitudes in our own home.  Then we progressed to talking about serving others outside of our home.  That is when the idea of the Secret Service Squad came to me.

If people all over the world were making a conscious effort to do service for each other, think about how much greater it would make the world!  Service doesn't have to be to someone you know, in fact sometimes it's more fun to do it for someone you don't know.  Although many times others are aware of the service we do for them, it's a lot more fun to do it in secret!  Society has become more and more selfish and self absorbed lately.  Everyone looking out for themselves, focusing on themselves, wanting things for themselves.  How has that worked for us? Well, watch the news and see.

Now for the plan.  The Secret Service Squad has now been created!  There is a blog for it- www.secretservicesquad.blogspot.com  and a facebook group: Secret Service Squad (the icon is a pair of sunglasses)  How it works- when you choose to be a part of the Secret Service Squad, you are now one of our Secret Service Agents.  Your job is to serve (in secret if you can) others as well as recruit new agents!  Remember, the more agents we have the more affect this will have on others and the harder it will be for those served to be able to guess who their secret service agent is.  There is a short letter that explains what the Secret Service Squad is and how to become an agent that you can leave with those whom you serve.  I will be getting business cards made up soon as well (since those may be easier to give)  People can join the facebook group and leave comments on their experiences, or thank their secret service agents.

Time to get creative! Service comes in all shapes and sizes!  With my kids being young we have had a BLAST leaving treats with the note at people's doors, knocking and running away.  My next plan is to make up some little treat bags that I can give to random people- leave them on their car instead of a flier, put in their shopping cart without being noticed, etc!  I'm making up the goodie bags with notes today!

Please join us in this adventure and become a Secret Service Agent yourself!
