Smitty Movie Review

Amoung the movies we reviewed Smitty is easily one of the best!  I'll warn you now though- this is a tear jerker in a few places.  There was even one point in the movie that I was about to say it was the worse movie ever! But then it got better- phewf!

When a young boy seems to find trouble in making the wrong kind of new friends he's sent to live with his grandpa in his farm in Iowa.

As a spoiled brat his attitude makes you want to reach through the TV and smack the boy! I even expressed to my kids that if they ever acted like that they would have a good spanking.  Luckily they could see how his behavior was not good and he was not making good choices.  Then they got to see the consequences of his choices and how it affected him and others.

Over time he learns what his mom tried to teach him- that life is not all about you.  His grandpa gives him a farm dog that is very well trained and a cute dog at that.  The dog is assigned to watch him and help him and they learn to depend on another.

The story was great overall, however it did seem like there was a lot of different stories and ideas tried to be shown (almost too many for one movie) so each story wasn't developed very well.  I did not care for the actor that played the grandpa, he just wasn't that good of an actor and had little emotion.

My kids really enjoyed it and got a good laugh at a few parts.  I think they liked seeing how smart the dog was.
This is a great family movie that everyone will love.  And most importantly it's great for teaching kids consequences of choices.
