48 hour Detox/Cleanse

After doing some research on foods that detox and foods that don't I wanted to try a 48 hour detox cleanse.  Since I believe that we can get the nutrients needed by eating foods and not relying on pills, shakes, etc. I wanted to create a meal plan of foods that naturally encourage the body to detox and strengthen the organs that help the body cleanse.
After doing some research this is what I found:
You want to drink LOTS of water!!!  Water will help flush the toxins out.  Adding Lemon oil or juice to the water will help. (and tastes good) A good rule of thumb for how much water you should be drinking is to take your weight divided in half and drink that many ounces per day.  So if you weigh 150 lbs, you'll want to drink at least 75 ounces of water a day. (this alone will help you feel more full)

Foods That detox/cleanse
Garlic
Onions
Berries- strawberries, blueberries, cranberries, cherries, blackberries, raspberries
Carrots
Leafy Greens- kale, spinach, cabbage, seaweed
Broccoli
Coconut Oil
Olive Oil
Artichokes
Brussels Sprouts
Citrus fruits- LEMONS, grapefruit, oranges, limes
Asparagus
Avocado
Beets
Ginger
Turmeric
Wheat grass
Oats
Grains
Flax seed
Apples
Bananas
Beans
Grapes
Cucumbers
Yogurt- plain or vanilla with pro-biotics (no flavored ones)
Sweet Potatoes
Tomatoes
Honey- raw or local fresh if possible
Apple Cider Vinegar- organic and unfiltered
*Basically the pattern here is unprocessed, natural foods.  Lots of fresh fruits and veggies.  I noticed that most of what to eat here are things you would see on the food pyramid.

Foods to Avoid
Caffein
Milk
Soda Pop
Alcohol
Bacon
Corn
Fast Food
Chips (junk foods)
Refined Sugar
Canola Oil
Margarine
Canned Fruits
*Basically you want to avoid any sugar that’s not found naturally in foods (so fruit is good, cake is bad), also you want to avoid the bad fats and oils (pretty much any oil that's not olive oil or avocado oil).  Just think, if it’s processed/packed by someone else other than you it’s probably a good idea to avoid it.

Here's my 48 hour menu for the detox/cleanse:

Day 1-

Breakfast: oatmeal with honey
1 cup of water with 2 t. apple cider vinegar
LOTS of water with a few drops of DoTerra lemon oil

Lunch: homemade turkey tacos

Snack: blueberry, blackberry & pineapple smoothie

Dinner: wonton soup

Snack: 100% Cranberry Grape juice

Day 2-

Breakfast- pineapple, banana, peach & spinach smoothie

Lunch: turkey tortilla wrap, steamed artichoke

Snack: 100% Cranberry Grape juice

Dinner: Garlic Potatoes, Yogurt Chicken

Snack: Popcorn with coconut oil

Overall it really wasn't that hard of a cleanse/detox.  I found myself craving something sweet the first night.  The second night the popcorn really hit the spot.  This is something I could do on a more regular basis, since it is mostly about eating healthy rather than depriving yourself of a ton of foods.  For me it was mostly about not eating refined sugar.  My husband had the hardest time staying away from milk and bacon he's been craving for a week. So tomorrow I promised we'd have a nice big breakfast with bacon.

I didn't feel starving.  Whenever I was hungry I could eat leftovers from another meal, or make a smoothie.

  1. what are you doing though depriving yourself of most of your protein, carbohydrates, and dairy. You are not getting enough nutrients in your body while doing this, and probably isn't recomended by a doctor. You got to remember these things are healthy foods but you also want to remember by doing this and if you do it to your body to much your going to ruin your body by depriving it of much needed nutrients!

  2. I never said anything about not eating protein or carbs or dairy. If you notice the dinner for the second day had yogurt in it, both lunches and dinners included chicken & turkey.
I am completely against the starvation diets, or ones that want you to completely eliminate food groups.
This is a cleanse however, so it is a 48 hour time span of eating in a way that will 1)strengthen your digestive organs while 2) not giving it any more heavy fats, sugars or high processed foods to deal with.

I'm not sure how you think not eating sugar, high fat foods, and processed foods and focusing mainly on eating fruits, vegetables, grains, and certain dairy products wouldn't provide enough nutrients?? It's all the basic things from the food pyramid- just making sure your "fats" are healthy fats such as olive, avocado, or coconut oil, and your "dairy" are not high in fat content. Most proteins are ok for the cleanse too (just not bacon and high fat ones)-for the best effect you want to stick to the more lean kinds such as chicken, turkey, and fish.

I do plan to drink milk while not on the cleanse. The main reason for avoiding it during the cleanse is because it creates mucus that can prevent the body from doing a full cleanse.

Even though this was a 48 hour cleanse, it really is a balanced healthy way to eat all the time.

  3. that cleanse is not all the basic things from the food pyramid because your not getting the recomended servings for your age. I have been doing weight watchers for 2 years now and have lost a tremendous amount of weight. I have researched a lot of food, and understand the different milks, fats, and sugars and i am continually learning more. from what you sound on here, the detox is a starvation because you need the water to feel full- when if you want to loose weight there are ways to do it very healthy ways with proper eatting of all food groups without having to go through a cleanse. People need to learn what they are puting in their mouth and exercise properly, because this detox would definately not be recomended by a doctor!

  4. Are you a moron? Do you not possess reading comprehension skills? This is not an actual cleanse you dimwit. She's eating real foods with proteins, carbs, nutrients, vitamins and good fats. What are you missing?
