How to cook the perfect steak

Here is a technique I've recently tried to help create the best mouth watering steak from your home.  No need to go to a steak house to get a perfectly cooked steak, with this trick you can do it yourself, and you don't even need a BBQ!
If you want to have the nice sear marks on your steak you will need some sort of grill pan.
Have your pan set to a high temperature and nice and hot before you put the steaks on it.  Drizzle a little bit of olive oil and rub in your desired seasonings onto the steaks before placing them on the grill.  Keep the grill on high heat.  All you want to do is get some good grill marks on each steak, don't worry about cooking them all the way through on the grill.
One thing to keep in mind when cooking meat is the less you move it the better!  Let it sit and get a good caramelization without being flipped and turned 100 times.  (You can see how the first steak in this picture was my "test" steak so it got a couple different grill lines.

Once the steaks are cooked on the outside and have the grill marks you like, place them in an oven.  I was making garlic potatoes to go with our steaks so I already had the oven set to 425 degrees and the potatoes cooking.  Place them into the oven for about 15 minutes (this will give you a med-well) cook which is what my family likes.  If you want them cooked to a med or well then have them in the oven for more or less time.  (If you like it rare then you could probably eat it off the grill and not have to put it in the oven at all)
The timing of the potatoes and steaks worked perfectly!
I turned on the grill, cut, seasoned and put potatoes into the oven, and then grilled the steaks.  Adding the steaks to the oven with the potatoes made them both ready at the same time!
