Natural cleaner
Pinterest experiment day! Today's experiment is an all natural cleaner made from orange peels and vinegar. It does take a couple weeks of prep/sitting before you can use it. I put it in my cupboard and forgot about it for a few weeks. (ok maybe it was a month or two)
Basically all you do is place orange peels in a mason jar (instead of the trash- this is a great way to multipurpose what would have been trash otherwise). Pour distilled vinegar over the orange peels until they are completely covered. Place the lid on the jar and let sit for 2 weeks.
I added orange peels to the jar for a few days and made sure to top off the vinegar so they were all covered. Until my jar was completely full.
After a couple of weeks the orange peels went darker in color (as seen in the picture) My before picture evaporated into digital space, but the picture shown is what it looks like today. (the vinegar levels are low because we've been using it) Once it's ready to use you can remove the peels and add fresh ones, or just store the cleaner without peels. You can also keep adding vinegar and peels to always have this cleaner ready to go!
Once the peels had sat in the vinegar for a couple of weeks we poured some into our Rubbermaid reveal- can I just stop and say for a minute how awesome this product is?!?! I used to have a swiffer, but the cost of cleaning pads and cleaner was ridiculous. We got this reveal and the pads are washable, and we can use any cleaning fluid we like! Plus it doesn't take batteries (even though our swiffer didn't go through them very fast it was still a necessity) So now I feel all environment friendly. Here's a picture of it- I HIGHLY recommend getting one!
We fill about 1/4-1/3 of the container with the orange/vinegar mixture, then the rest with water. You will smell a orange/vinegar smell, but once it dries the vinegar smell goes away. Since citrus has great antibacterial properties we are cleaning and disinfecting at the same time in an all natural- environmentally safe, and lets not forget CHEAP way!!
This Pinterest experiment gets a high recommendation from me! Here's my score break down:
Cost: 100/100
Easy to do: 100/100
Effective: 100/100
Time: 50/100 - this score is only low because it takes 2 weeks before you can start using it, but once you start you can keep adding fresh orange peels & more vinegar.
