Dehydrating Peaches

When you have good peaches available to you take advantage of them!!  We got a case of some of the best peaches we've ever tried.  Wanting to make them last we used some to make Peach-Mango Jam and then dehydrated some others.  I have an idea of something to do with these dried ones, I'll post it once I try it.  If you haven't ever dried anything before it's not hard.
There's no rhyme or reason to dehydrating fruits.
For the peaches I simply peeled the skin off, then sliced them into thin slices (for less drying time)  You can dry them cut into halves or quarters if you prefer, it will just take longer to dry.

I placed the slices into some fruit fresh briefly so they would keep their color.  Then spread them out onto a drying rack in my dehydrator.
Once all the racks were full and stacked I turned on the dehydrator and let it do it's thing!  Since my slices were pretty thin it took about 5 hours or so.  To see if your fruit is dry you just check it by hand.  You want it pliable, but not moist.

Once they're dry just pick them off of the racks and seal into jars using your food saver vacuum packing machine, or put them into ziploc bags.  Sealing them into jars will make them last much longer.

You could make your own trail mix, chop them and put them into granola bars, or like I plan to- make your own instant oatmeal!
Happy Drying!
