September 26th is Mesothelioma Awareness Day. Mesothelioma is a very rare cancer, but is completely preventable. Do you remember about 5-10 years ago there were all sorts of commercials talking about asbestos and it causing mesothelioma? Learn more about asbestos exposure and keep your families safe. I was contacted by Cameron Von St. James and asked if I would share Mesothelioma Awareness Day on behalf of his wife who is a survivor of mesothelioma. Here's a little bit about her story-
- Heather Von St. James is a survivor of mesothelioma for almost 10 years, which was caused by exposure to asbestos fibers on her father's work jacket as a little girl.
- Heather was diagnosed with Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma just months after giving birth to her daughter, and was told she had maybe 15 months to live.
- She underwent a drastic surgery that involved a heated chemotherapy solution and the removal of her left lung, and now is a survivor.
- Her and her husband Cameron now work to spread awareness of mesothelioma globally.
