How to make a Light Garland

This has been one of the projects pinned on my Pinterest for about a year now, and with this week's Awesome Week 6 task of doing a project for a window I chose this one!  Here's how to make a Light Garland.  It's easy- a kid could do it, and I love how you can personalize it to whatever colors and style you want.  If you follow me on Instagram you've already seen a sneak peek of it!
I have 2 types pinned, one is made of all tulle, and the other is made of all ribbon/fabric.  I loved the look of both so I wanted to mix it up a little.

One thing I did learn was that it takes a LOT of tulle/ribbon.  I ended up using 3 spools of tulle, and 4 spools of ribbon.  If you want yours to look thicker then you'll need more.

You'll need:
strand of christmas lights (I did white lights with a white cord)
3 or more spools of tulle
4 or more spools of ribbon

First  I unrolled the tulle into about 6" strips, I found by looping it into a 6" loop as it unrolled it was really easy to just cut the two ends and have all my strips cut!

Then just tie the tulle on to the light strand. I found only one knot worked just fine.

Then cut your ribbon. I found the quickest and easiest way was to unroll all of it then take the ribbon and fold it in half, then in half again and again until it was as close to 6" as it could get then cut the looped ends.

I counted my ribbon and the places between the lights so I could spread them out evenly.  I had 96 places between lights and averaged 16 strips of ribbon per spool.  Laying out the entire light cord helped see where to put the ribbon as well.

Here's what it looked like once it was hung around the window-

We Love it!! Oh and ignore the new bed project (it's on hold waiting for a new mattress)

I got extra light strands to make one for my bedroom as well- those will be smaller though and probably just across the top of the window since my curtains need a little valance or something.

These would be fun on a mantle in different colors for the holiday's- or maybe just one white fancy one with lace ribbon!! OMG now I think I need to make a fancy lace one.

Also would work great for weddings!
