Growth Chart DIY

I've seen these for years and finally made it a priority to make one!  While I was at it I made one for my parents as well. It was surprisingly easy and not as big of a task as I thought it would be. The board was about $8 at Home Depot and since I had some vinyl and my silhouette machine the writing didn't cost me anything.  You could also paint the writing on if you don't have a vinyl machine.  And I already had paint.  So this project cost me $8- SO WORTH IT!

A couple years ago my parents sold their house they had lived in for about 10 years.  In that time they had a pantry door that they had measured all the grandkids on as they grew.  Sadly they left the door behind when they moved not knowing that the new owners were planning to tear the house down.
So this growth chart is perfect for my parents, and anyone really because if you move you take it with you and you'll never lose those fun measurements like we did.

Once you get the board you can sand it if you like to smooth the edges.
Paint it the color you want and give it a good day or so to dry.

To add your measurements you want to take a baseboards into consideration: if you have base boards you'll want to measure how tall they are and start your measurements from there so when you screw the growth chart to the wall it will sit on top of your base boards.

My parents have 5 1/2 inch base boards so I made my first measurement 1/2 of an inch from the bottom then every inch from there.  My growth chart goes to 6' 5 1/2"

The boards are usually 6 feet long so if you have tall people in your family you'll want to have the growth chart a little off the ground when it's mounted to the wall anyway.

Laying the board on my table I used a tape measure to measure and make small lines with a pen where each vinyl line should go.  Then I just placed the vinyl over the pen markings, added the numbers by the foot marks and you've got it!

I liked the saying "we love watching our family grow" so I added that to my chart and we put it above the chart on the wall at my parents house.
I also added our family name to the bottom, and I put mine and my husband's heights in vinyl (since we wont be growing taller)

Since we had a cheap paper chart before this I just took the measurements from those and added them to the new chart!  I think I may go back through kids' doctor checkups and add their heights from those as well some day.

It's fun to see their growth!
