A few weeks ago my ward did this service project for Days for Girls that was SO fun and so awesome. Days for girls is a non-profit organization that works with other non-profits to provide feminine hygiene kits to girls in all parts of the world that would otherwise have to use things like leaves, mattress stuffing, newspaper, corn husks, rocks, or anything they can find and still miss days of school each month that affects their education.
So the service project is making these hygiene kits that include:
a drawstring bag
2 moisture barrier shields
1 travel size soap
visual instructions sheet
2- 1 gallon ziploc bags
8 absorbent tri-fold pads
2 pair of panties
1 washcloth
Their Mission:
Creating a more dignified, free and educated world through access to lasting feminine hygiene solutions.
Days for Girls International is a grassroots 501(c)3 non-profit. Women, and girls discover their potential and self-value, are equal participants and agents of social change and are given opportunities to thrive, grow and contribute to their community's betterment while ensuring quality sustainable feminine hygiene.
This is what our ward put together for our enrichment night-
We had a bunch of ladies bring sergers and sewing machines and sew the bags, pads & shields then some donated the other supplies such as washcloths, panties, soap, and ziploc bags.
I can't imagine what it would be like to not have tampons or disposable pads- let alone to not have ANYTHING and have to use leaves etc. :(
If you're looking for a great service project to do- try this one! And be sure to check out their website to read some stories and learn more about Days for Girls.
