Switched at Birth

If you haven't seen this show you can watch the first 2 seasons on Netflix.  It's every parent's nightmare.  2 couples go to the hospital, have their baby, and don't find out until 15 years later that they were sent home with the wrong baby!  As these two families deal with reconnecting the children to their biological parents while at the same time maintaining their parental role to the child they raised they have to deal with social, economic and cultural differences.
One of the babies went to a Latino-Italian home where the husband had suspected that this little red headed baby could not possibly be his and therefore suspected his wife of cheating.  When the baby (Daphne) was a toddler she got a virus which caused her to loose most of her hearing.  This combine with his suspicious and the stress it had put on their marriage, the Father Antonio left, and Regina (the mom) raised Daphne as a single mom.  Regina is a hairstylist and alcoholic who went through a 12 step program when Daphne was young and has been sober for 11 years.  They live in a very low income area of town and money was scarce.

The other baby (Bay) was raised by John & Catherine Kennish- John was a famous major league baseball player.  They have a very nice house in a very nice area of town.  Fame and fortune are not strangers to this family.  They have a son that was born before the switch occurred (Toby).  Both Toby and Bay attend a very prestigious private school.  John owns a successful car was business.  Bay is the one that discovers through a blood test at her school that there is no possible way her parents are her biological parents.

So the search begins and soon they find Daphne & Regina who because of financial difficulties end up moving into the Kennish's guest house.  It's at this point that the 3 parents have to learn to work together to parent the 2 girls together.  Bay and Catherine are the first to embrace and learn ASL (sign language).  While the 2 high school girls introduce each other to their friends romantic relationships and drama occurs.

This is a great show and leaves the viewer thinking about what they would do if in the same situation.  If you have ever had an interest in learning or already know sign language you will enjoy this show as much as I have!
